'Rick and Morty' season 3 news, plot updates: Release date for upcoming season still unannounced; claymation commercials released
There is still no definite date for the launch of the anticipated season 3 of "Rick and Morty." Meanwhile, Adult Swim ordered Claymation commercials of the series that are parodies of sci-fi horror movies.
"Rick and Morty" was announced to continue on to a third season just three episodes into season 2. At the finale episode of season 2, Mr. Poopybutthole appeared and told viewers to tune in to "Rick and Morty" season 3 "in like a year and a half, or longer." It set the earliest release date of the show's third season this coming April.
But several rumors of "Rick and Morty" season 3 being premiered at an earlier date began to break out when series creators Dan Harmon and Justin Roiland appeared at the 2016 Magic City Comic Con in Miami and announced that they are targeting to release the third season by the end of the year.
iDigitalTimes pointed out that the rumors of having earlier release dates for "Rick and Morty" season 3 have no basis, which emphasizes that Mr. Poopybutthole's claim might be accurate.
In the meantime, Adult Swim provided fans of "Rick and Morty" with previews by tagging Lee Hardcastle to create claymation commercials of the cartoon according to Den of Geek.
The claymation ID commercials feature Rick and Morty in parodies of different sci-fi horror films such as David Cronenberg's "The Fly," wherein Rick turns into a big fly and freaks his grandson.
Another parody is of "Honey, I Shrunk the Kids," where Morty is the size of an ant swimming in Rick's cereal. Rick, without noticing it, puts Morty in his mouth along with milk and some cereal.
One of the commercials show Rick dancing with to the beat, and another one shows him having the Smiths as his hostage.
"Rick and Morty" season 3 is expected to premiere this April.
