'Rick and Morty' season 3 news: Series creator explains delayed premiere; new image revealed
Adult Swim has yet to announce a premiere date for "Rick and Morty" season 3, but creator Dan Harmon recently explained why the show's release date had to be pushed back.
More than a year after the show's second season wrapped up, the network still hasn't revealed a premiere window for the next installment. "Rick and Morty" creator Dan Harmon was at the Sundance Film Festival last week, and he weighed in on the program's delayed launch. He also shared his thoughts on the struggles the creative team has gone through while writing season 3.
Harmon took the blame for the late release and explained that it happened due to creative differences."If Justin [Roiland, Rick and Morty co-creator] were here he'd agree," Harmon said. "He and I would go, 'Yeah, we f----d up,' and it's hard to put your finger on how we f----d up. Rick and Morty keeps taking longer and longer to write, and I don't know why," he went on to say.
"We have fights all the time and then we have fights about why we're having fights," Harmon continued, adding, "Well, we didn't fight during Season 2, that's why it's taking longer! All this fighting! So OK, let's stop fighting!"
Many fans immediately thought that there's an ongoing behind-the-scene drama because of Harmon's use of the word "fight. The series creator eventually backpedaled on some of his harsh language and clarified that there's no rift between him and the co-creators. He also stressed that the reason behind the third season's delay is nothing more than slow writing.
While details about the storyline are being kept under wraps, co-creator/writer/voice actor Justin Roiland revealed a screenshot of an upcoming episode. Roiland attended the Adult Video Network Awards and shared a small sneak peak by posting it on Twitter.
The image shows Rick surrounded by three Mortys, each with a different facial expression, as he stands with one foot on a rock. They seem to be standing on a platform as if they're displays in a museum. Roiland didn't explain the photo, but it's possible that the show is still exploring its multiple universes subplot.
