In a recent interview with Paste, series co-creator Dan Harmon clarified rumors hounding "Rick and Morty" season 3's premiere date. He said that the show would not air on July 26; neither will new episodes start airing in August.
"That I can squash," he told the magazine. "I don't see any parallel universe where August is a possibility."
He claimed that the production team is still hard at work so it might take some time before they can give a definite premiere date for "Rick and Morty" season 3. Harmon also said that official announcement concerning the show's release date would come from Cartoon Network's Adult Swim itself. At any rate, a late 2016 or early 2017 premiere might be in line for the show, and not August as fans have been speculating.
As far as "Rick and Morty" season 3 plots and storylines go, Movie News Guide has said that the third season will pick up where season 2 left off – with the cliffhanger from "The Wedding Squanchers." Rick would still be in galactic prison when the series returns, but the possibility of him becoming the prison kingpin is high.
Morty will look for Rick, and in the process, he might come across a fake Rick, with whom he will spend time with. There would also be an evil Morty, who will capture the real Rick and hold him hostage. The mentioned storylines, according to "Rick and Morty's" IMDB page, will comprise episodes 3 and 4 of season 3.
