'Riverdale' spoilers: Will Sabrina the teenage witch visit Archie in the new The CW series?
The CW will finally debut "Riverdale" on Thursday, Jan. 26, but talks about a possible character appearance are beginning to be heard through the grapevine.
Speculations claim that the highly anticipated darker adaptation of "Archie" comics could possibly feature the return of Sabrina the teenage witch on TV. The character had her own sitcom that aired on ABC from 1996 to 2000 then moved to The WB for its last three seasons until 2003. The series starred Melissa Joan Hart for the titular role.
But there is a chance to see Sabrina back on TV through "Riverdale," according to the people behind the upcoming show.
"There is absolutely a universe where Sabrina pops up in Riverdale or one town over in Greendale. Certainly, the priority is launching Riverdale and making sure that show is as good as it can be and as embraced as we want it to be," executive producer Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa told Entertainment Weekly. "I'll just tease that Sabrina has potential with a capital P."
But just like "Riverdale," which featured an edgier, more mature plot compared with the popular comic series, Aguirre-Sacasa told TV Guide during the Television Critics Association event in Pasadena, California that the probable reboot of "Sabrina, The Teenage Witch" might also have a darker tone. It might be inspired by the "Chilling Adventures of Sabrina" that is set in the 1960s.
Meanwhile, the latest trailer for "Riverdale" centered on the death of Jason Blossom (Trevor Stines). His death created a huge impact on the town, especially in the lives of high school students Archie Andrews (K.J. Apa), Betty Cooper (Lili Reinhart), Veronica Lodge (Camila Mendes) and Jughead Jones (Cole Sprouse).
The first episode of the series will be called "Chapter One: The River's Edge." It will reveal Archie's complicated relationship with his young music teacher named Miss Grundy (Sarah Habel).
