'Rogue One: A Star Wars Story' release date and news: Russian movie poster spread online
The marketing for Gareth Edwards' "Rogue One: A Star Wars Story" has slowly been getting some steam as the release date draws nearer and nearer. Fans recently saw the image of the Russian "Rogue One" poster, which features some imagery that some fans consider to be better than the international images.
The poster was spotted at the 2016 Comic-Con Russia, and it features a beach shore with a rebel helmet lying on the ground as the Empire arrives on the beach. What's also interesting is that the reflection of the helmet in the water is the insignia for the Rebel Alliance.
The picture is reminiscent of the "Battle of Normandy" scene from Steven Spielberg's "Saving Private Ryan." Aside from the helmet, the shores are being invaded by a battalion of Stormtroopers and behind them are the Empire's towering AT-AT walkers. It's also interesting to note that this is one of the few posters that do not feature the movie's lead protagonist, Jyn Erso (Felicity Jones).
Some fans have pointed out that the poster also has a 12+ rating. Last year, "Star Wars: The Force Awakens" had a PG-13 rating, meaning the show was too violent for children. So far, "Rogue One" has been marketed as a "war" movie, which could be too much for younger members of the audience to handle.
The choice to close the movie for younger children is an interesting move by Disney. Any seasoned "Star Wars" fan knows that the bulk of profit made by the franchise is from merchandising. With a new slew of toys coming this December, kids will want to be in the theater for "Rogue One."
Will "Rogue One" make as much profit without younger audiences? Time will tell.
"Rogue One: A Star Wars Story" comes out on Dec. 16.
