There is a new flagship smartphone in town, the Galaxy S6, and it is capturing headlines as Samsung tries to hold on to its place at the top of the heap. For many years that position belonged to Blackberry which was a favorite among those in the business community. Last year, the company attempted to attract customers with its rebooted Passport. Here is a comparison between the two phones.
Design
Design is an area where Blackberry feels it has a winner as its device has a physical keyboard not present in other touchscreen smartphones, which makes typing much more easier and accurate. The build of the Blackberry Passport also features a steel frame and soft touch plastic on its back panel. But what makes the device stand out is its square shape, which makes it broader than other smartphones. As for the Galaxy S6, it is comprised of a touchscreen in front and an aluminum frame and Gorilla Glass 4 on its back panel.
Display
The Galaxy S6 has a bigger and better quality Super AMOLED screen measuring 5.1 inches with a resolution of 1440 x 2560 pixels and a density of 577 pixels per inch. The Blackberry Passport has an IPS LCD screen measuring 4.5 inches with a resolution of 1440 x 1440 pixels and a density of 453 pixels per inch.
Specs
The Galaxy S6 pulls ahead of its competitor in terms of specs since it has an Exynos 7420 chipset, an octa core CPU with four cores clocked at 1.5 GHz, four cores clocked at 2.1 GHz and a Mali-T760MP8 GPU. Compared to this, the Blackberry Passport has a Qualcomm Snapdragon 801chipset, a quad-core Krait 400 CPU clocked at 2.26 GHz, and an Adreno 330 GPU.
Memory
The Blackberry passport has a memory slot allowing for external storage of up to 128 GB. Samsung opted not to provide the Galaxy S6 with one. As for RAM, both devices have 3 GB onboard each.
Price
The 32 GB Galaxy S6 is priced at $199 with a two-year contract, while the Blackberry Passport costs $599 in its unlocked form and $249 with a two-year contract.
