The Samsung Galaxy S8 will be the next to do without the traditional 3.5-millimeter headphone jack if the latest reports are anything to go by.

WCCFTech is reporting that the South Korea-based tech giant is looking to go jack free for its next smartphone flagship and leave the audio fixes of users to the USB-C connector, which will also be used for charging.

This move is not new, of course, as Apple has removed the headphone jack on its latest products – the iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 Plus, which led to controversy.

Not everyone was happy about the traditional audio connection being removed from the smartphone. It is looking like this will also be the case for Samsung Galaxy S8.

Digital Spy points out that this will also not be the first time Samsung takes a page from its Cupertino-based rival's book when it comes to stitching their flagships together.

Samsung opted to remove the microSD card slot on the Samsung Galaxy S7 and Galaxy S7 Edge and opted for a non-removable battery, and many users were understandably outraged.

These two features are actually what sets it apart from Apple and they are sometimes they are the sole basis of many mobile users when choosing a phone.

It remains to be seen if Samsung Galaxy S8 will indeed echo Apple's bold move and remove the headphone jack as well.

WCCFTech says that this leap is inevitable although many would argue that the tech giant made the jump a little early. Either way, it seems that the new norm in smartphones is about to be established again.

Other reports regarding the Samsung Galaxy S8 include a Virtual Reality-centric display with stellar 4K screen resolution. The display will be curved as the company is shying away from flat screens.

As far as the release date goes, all signs and reports point to a launch at the Mobile World Congress (MWC) in February next year.
