Samsung Galaxy Tab S3 release date, specs rumors: upcoming tablet equipped with Exynos 7420 processor, 4 GB RAM
The Samsung Galaxy Tab S3 has made several appearances online already including when it received its Wi-Fi and Bluetooth certification earlier this month. However, the third-generation tablet's specs have largely remained under wraps — until now. A leak originating from China gives consumers a glimpse of the upcoming tablet's technical specifications.
According to a post on Chinese microblogging site Weibo (via Android Soul), the Galaxy Tab S3 will be powered by Samsung's own Exynos 7420 processor, the same chip that powers that Galaxy S6 and S6 Edge smartphones. There will also be 4 GB of random-access memory (RAM), a fingerprint sensor embedded on the Home button and a USB Type-C port.
While specific memory configurations have yet to be revealed, the same post detailed that the Galaxy Tab S3 will be using Universal Flash Storage (UFS) 2.0 technology. The next-generation ultra-high-end tablet will come in two versions. The Wi-Fi only model will ship with the model number SM-T820 while the 4G LTE-capable variant will have the SM-T825 badge.
There were no details regarding the upcoming device's screen size and resolution but it is expected that the Galaxy Tab S3, just like its predecessor, will be offered with both an 8-inch display and a 9.7-inch screen. Both variants could utilize active-matrix organic light-emitting diode (AMOLED) displays.
Given that the current Galaxy Tab S2 is more than a year old already, many believe that the launch of its successor is imminent. In terms of a specific release window, the Galaxy Tab S3 is highly likely to be unveiled at the upcoming Mobile World Congress (MWC), to be held in Barcelona this February.
Samsung has already announced that its next-generation flagship smartphone, the Galaxy S8, will not be launched at MWC 2017 so it's possible that the South Korean tech giant's other upcoming products, specifically the Galaxy Tab S3, will take the spotlight instead.
Samsung has not officially announced the Galaxy Tab S3 so information regarding the third-generation tablet should be taken with a grain of salt.
