'Silence' news, updates: Andrew Garfield says he fell in love with Jesus while filming 'Silence'
Some may deny it, but movies do change lives. Inspirational movies can leave a huge impact on some people, and this, in turn, can change the way they perceive everything. In some cases, the actors themselves may even gain a new perspective on life.
In an interview with the National Catholic Review magazine, Andrew Garfield, the actor who portrayed Sebastião Rodrigues in "Silence," revealed that he fell in love with Jesus while they were making the film. "What was really easy was falling in love with this person, was falling in love with Jesus Christ. That was the most surprising thing," he stated.
He went on to explain that it was so easy to open his heart to Jesus, and he also talked about how he felt angry that a lot of people have been dragging His name in the mud by doing bad things.
Garfield also revealed that his fear of not being good enough actually brought him closer to Christ.
"The main thing that I wanted to heal, that I brought to Jesus, that I brought to the Exercises, was this feeling of not-enough-ness. This feeling of that forever longing for the perfect expression of this thing that is inside each of us. That wound of not-enough-ness. That wound of feeling like what I have to offer is never enough," he stated.
It's always a pleasure to hear someone embracing Jesus, and it is good to know that Garfield is more than willing to share his experiences and talk about what drew him closer to Christ.
Garfield's character in "Silence," Sebastião Rodrigues, is actually based on Giuseppe Chiara, an Italian Jesuit missionary who spread the word of God in Japan during the 17th century. The film is based on the novel of the same name written by ShÅ«saku EndÅ.
"Silence" was directed by Martin Scorsese, and he also co-wrote the script with Jay Cocks. The film premiered last month, and it has been nominated for a number of awards.
