Snapchat Update 2015: Replacement of Friends' List With Emojis Irritates A Number of Users
A recent update from Snapchat left many users of the disappearing text and photo messaging service wondering what happened to their friends' list as it was replaced with a number of emojis. It was soon revealed that the update was a major one and could not be skipped by those who did not want to get rid of their friends' list.
As the friends' list faded into oblivion on Snapchat, many users bemoaned its loss and expressed their frustration with the new emojis. Some even took to social media sites such as a Twitter and described them as hard to understand. Others went a lot further and pointed out that probably a sixth grader was behind the emojis' irritating design.
Those who started to use the emoji system described it as complicated, saying they could not figure out its tiered design.
Snapchat tried to explain the six emojis to its users. It said the gold heart will show up after the name of the best friend, while a face with a grimace will show up next to a person who's primary best friend is the same as yours. A sunglass-clad face will indicate if you and another person both send a lot of snaps to a certain person. A face with a smirk indicates someone who sends you a lot of snaps but you do not return the favor. A face with a smile and pink cheeks will indicate a best friend. Finally a flame emoji will be assigned to people who you send snaps on consecutive days.
Also included in the update is a low-light mode which resolves the problems several users have faced when snapping pictures in areas where there is very little light. Using this feature, people can now employ the half moon icon on the Snapchat app to improve the brightness in their photos.
Finally for friends currently ignored on Snapchat, the app highlights these people with a "needs love" feature.
