'Spider-Man' Cast News, Plot Spoilers: Film Reboot to See Young Actor as Peter Parker; Multiple Trilogies Like Harry Potter
Sony Pictures and Marvel Studios will bring a new version of Spider-Man in a film called "The Spectacular Spider-Man," which will feature a new young actor as Peter Parker and his webbed alter-ego superhero.
"The movie is also said to focus on Spidey from his high school days, with the potential for multiple trilogies like the Harry Potter series," The Irish Examiner reported.
"Following Sony Pictures' deal with Marvel, it has been rumored that characters from Marvel comics will feature in Spidey's world," it added.
Sony, which has been the steward of the franchise since 1999, is partnering with Disney-owned Marvel for the reboot of the Spider-Man franchise.
As part of the revamp, the new Spider-Man will first appear in a Marvel film before the Spider-Man reboot will be released in July 2017. "The Sinister Six" could appear with Iron Man and some of the other Avengers in the Spider-Man reboot.
The Hollywood Reporter said Marvel's Kevin Feige and former Sony chairman Amy Pascal will be producing the reboot while Matt Tolmach will be its executive producer.
The new Spider-Man film will start a new series and will not be tied to the Andrew Garfield-starring "The Amazing Spider-Man," prompting the studios to look for a new lead actor.
While Reddit reported that Dylan O'Brien has been cast as "Spider-Man," that isn't remotely true, according to insiders with knowledge of the situation.
Sony and Marvel may have found the right guy to direct the all-new Spider-Man movies in Drew Goddard, who has reportedly been in talks to direct and even write the new reboot.
The Latino Review first came up with a report that Goddard is being tipped for the role considering his forthcoming collaborations with Marvel on the "Daredevil" TV series and "The Sinister Six" movie.
But, in a separate report, The Wrap clarified that Goddard does not quite have the job yet even though he has been considered as a heavy favorite.
"Drew has not yet met with Marvel but will soon; along with several others," The Wrap said, citing insiders.
"It's unlikely he would pass on the project if it was officially offered to him," it added.
Representatives for Sony, Marvel and Goddard did not immediately respond to requests for comment, though insiders suggested it would be "very premature" to say he has been hired.
Goddard has plenty of sci-fi credentials, with his past works including "Cloverfield," "The Cabin In The Woods" and "World War Z." He has also worked on TV, having written episodes of "Buffy The Vampire Slayer," "Angel," "Lost" and "Alias."
