'Spider-Man: Homecoming' movie latest news: To showcase different sides of the superhero; villain introduced
The "Spider-Man: Homecoming" movie panel at the San Diego International Comic-Con showcased the villain that will be featured in the upcoming film. Present at the event were the members of the cast, including Tom Holland who plays Peter Parker, Zendaya as Michelle, Laura Harrier as Liz Allan, Jacob Batalon as Ned, and Tony Revolori as Flash.
It was initially announced that Michael Keaton would be taking on the role of the villain in Marvel's next big screen offering, but it was not revealed who it will be. The Comic-Con yielded the much awaited revelation through a video shown of Parker a.k.a. Spider-Man dealing with his daily life as a young student. The footage ends with the appearance of the Vulture.
The reboot, which is a hallmark collaboration between Marvel Studios and Sony Pictures, will give Spider-Man's fans a glimpse into a different side of him, as Holland shared with Collider.
The actor confirmed that the character in the film will be that of a 15-year-old Parker in the tenth grade who is dealing with the challenges of being a kid in high school and a new superhero still trying to get comfortable with his newfound role in saving his city.
Spider-Man will be in the process of growing into his character, coming to terms with his powers, and dealing with the events following "Captain America: Civil War," struggling to understand the why's of that encounter while finding where he fits into it all.
Holland pointed out that the film will present the most realistic take on the superhero, with Parker seen in Chemistry class building some of the tech that would be used for his suit.
As for Vulture, Holland thinks he will be one awesome villain.
As for the characters played by the cast mentioned above, Revolori's Flash Thompson is the bully that Parker has to contend with in school. With Spider-Man's identity unknown to Thompson, he comes to worship the hero.
Zendaya's Michelle, possibly Gonzales, since her family name was not revealed as yet, may be a new love interest for Parker.
Harrier's Liz may be Thompson's girlfriend in the film, while Batalon's Ned Leeds may be a rival for another love interest.
There are no details as yet on the release date for the film.
