'Star Trek 4' latest news: J.J. Abrams has an 'amazing pitch' for next 'Star Trek' film, says Chris Hemsworth
Most "Star Trek" fans are already aware that a fourth film installment to the rebooted franchise is confirmed to be in development by Paramount. Although the box office success of 2016's "Star Trek Beyond" was less than expected and lesser than the earnings of its predecessors, it looks like Paramount Pictures is committed to their plan to continue on the iconic sci-fi franchise.
In fact, an interesting twist is in store for viewers who are hoping to watch "Star Trek 4." Last year, it was announced that the fourth "Star Trek" movie will be featuring the return of Chris Hemsworth reprising the role of George Kirk, the long-lost father of James T. Kirk (Chris Pine), who appeared to have died in the ship-wide explosion at the first "Star Trek" reboot movie.
Since then, fans have been eager to receive news and details about the movie, but information has been very scarce. The development of "Star Trek 4" has been slowly progressing, and the closest thing to an update that fans managed to receive was a photo on Twitter posted by Simon Pegg, teasing that he and "Star Trek Beyond" co-writer Doug Jung has started working on "Star Trek 4."
As if to appease the curiosity of loyal "Star Trek" fans, it was Chris Hemsworth himself that took the time to offer a short but sweet update on the progress of "Star Trek 4." In an interview with MTV at the red carpet of the recently-held Golden Globes ceremony, the actor confirmed to have met J.J. Abrams, one of the major forces in the rebooted "Star Trek" film franchise, about the upcoming "Star Trek" project.
"I've spoken to J.J. [Abrams], and he has an amazing pitch on the whole thing," Hemsworth said.
When asked if he knew in what manner will his character be returning, he responded, "I honestly don't know."
"Star Trek" does not have an official release date yet or even an official title, and its production could be far ahead into the future.
