'Star Trek: Discovery' news: Premiere date pushed back again to late summer or early fall; comic version already in the works

CBS All Access' upcoming reboot of "Star Trek: Discovery" has been delayed again, CBS chief executive Leslie Moonves recently confirmed.

Moonves broke the news during an investor conference earlier this week. The CBS chief went on to explain that "a lot of post production" was required in the program, so its debut will be a bit later than expected. He added that he was "confident" in its outcome and stressed how important it is to get everything right because "'Star Trek' is the family jewels."

For those who aren't in the loop, this is not the first time "Star Trek: Discovery" has been delayed. Showrunner Bryan Fuller left the series last year to focus on "American Gods," and his departure reportedly slowed down the production. The show was previously slated for a May 2016 debut, but due to lead star Sonequa Martin-Green's commitment to "The Walking Dead," its premiere had to be delayed.

After another delay in January of this year, the network decided to no longer announce an estimated launch window to avoid putting more pressure on the series. A rep from the network released a statement saying that CBS' priority has been changed to getting it right than rushing the production.

Other stars confirmed to join the cast include Michelle Yeoh ("Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon") as Captain Georgiou, Doug Jones ("Pan's Labyrinth") as Lieutenant Saru, and Anthony Rapp ("Rent") as Lieutenant Stamet. The story will take place just before the events in the original series.

In other news, a "Star Trek: Discovery" comics is now in progress, as confirmed by comic writer Mike Johnson. "We're still figuring out the release plan; we've already started working on the stories and working with Kirsten (Beyer)," he told TrekMovie. "The comic will be closely woven into the show," he added

Before moving to the CBS All Access streaming network, "Star Trek: Discovery" will premiere on CBS. All episodes will then be globally distributed through Netflix.
