The production for "Star Trek: Discovery" is finally underway, and a new teaser for the upcoming CBS All Access series has been released.

"Star Trek: Discovery" is now in production, and the latest footage from CBS takes fans on a journey through the franchise's history. The sci-fi program is one of the most anticipated shows to arrive this year, mainly because it has been 12 years since the Enterprise left the small screen.

"What followed was half a century of stories unbridled by the constraints of time or space but always a reflection of what it means to be human," the voiceover in the 60-second clip says. Scenes of the original series were shown in the video before giving a first look at the upcoming revival. The network also revealed new uniforms for the cast, with a slightly altered logo as well as construction shots.

Last month, it was announced that the revival series had cast James Frain as Spock's father. "The Walking Dead" star Sonequa Martin-Green will play Lieutenant Commander Rainsford, making history by becoming the first African-American woman to lead an ensemble cast in the franchise. Originally set to air in May, "Star Trek Discovery" has been hit with production troubles and two delays. It is now expected to air in the latter half of the year.

"Production on Star Trek: Discovery begins next week. We love the cast, the scripts and are excited about the world the producers have created," CBS All Access reps said in a statement. "This is an ambitious project; we will be flexible on a launch date if it's best for the show. We've said from the beginning it's more important to do this right than to do it fast. There is also added flexibility presenting on CBS All Access, which isn't beholden to seasonal premieres or launch windows," the statement went on to say.

"Star Trek: Discovery" is expected to premiere either this fall or in early 2018 on CBS. All subsequent episodes will be available on CBS All Access, the network's digital subscription service.
