'Star Wars Rebels' Season 2 News: Sarah Michelle Gellar Joins Voice Cast for New Season
Sarah Michelle Gellar will soon be lending her voice as the newest member of "Star Wars Rebels" cast for its second season.
Gellar has joined the voice cast of Disney XD's "Star Wars Rebels" in a recurring role, Disney confirmed on Tuesday.
"We're thrilled to have Sarah Michelle Gellar on board for Season Two," executive producer and supervising director Dave Filoni said, according to Variety.
"She is a true 'Star Wars Rebels' fan and her passion undoubtedly comes through in the voice recording sessions," Filoni added.
While the announcement was made during Disney Media's sale and marketing presentations, little is still known about Gellar's role.
Gellar is known for starring in "Buffy: The Vampire Slayer." She also played voice-over roles in "Robot Chicken" and "Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles."
She will add another star power to the show's voice cast who includes her husband Freddie Prinze Jr.
Vanessa Marshall, Steve Blum, Tiya Sircar, Taylor Gray and "Selma" star David Oyelowo are also part of "Star Wars Rebels," which takes place between episodes III and IV of the blockbuster saga.
The show follows the ragtag crew of the starship Ghost as they attempt to evade the growing Empire and its agents.
In its second season, the series will feature recurring appearances by fan-favorite characters including Darth Vader and Ahsoka Tano.
With a reach of more than 49 million viewers in its first season, the Disney show is expected to have a return later this year.
