'Star Wars Rebels' season 3 air date and updates: Wedge Antilles featured in new clip
Back when the first trailer for the third season of "Star Wars Rebels" came out, fans were excited to find out that Rebel pilot Wedge Antilles will be making an appearance. A new clip for the next episode showcased Antilles himself and it explored his days as an Imperial pilot before he started working for the Rebel Alliance.
The next episode titled "The Antilles Extraction" will follow Sabine as she tries to extract some Imperial pilots who want to defect to the rebellion. Among them is Wedge Antilles.
The clip has Sabine revealing her true identity to Wedge before they plan their escape.
A lot of fans will remember Antilles back from the original "Star Wars" films. He was one of the last surviving X-Wing pilots at the Battle of Yavin besides Luke Skywalker. In "The Empire Strikes Back," he was the pilot who toppled an AT-AT walker with cables.
In the debunked Legends lore, Wedge was a Correllian, meaning he came from the same planet as famed smuggler Han Solo. He was also the one who formed the Rogue Squadron in the books.
Fans don't know how much of the Legends will make it to canon but they are still happy to see their favorites making appearances in "Star Wars Rebels."
In an interview with Slash Film, Dave Filoni talked about the possibility of having more rebel pilots in the series.
He said, "We have a lot of Rebel pilots. And well maybe some of these guys crossover. So you get Wedge and you get Y-Wings, which is kind of showing us again that we're building towards that 'New Hope' moment where the Rebels seem to be structured in a different way than we were in the beginning of 'Star Wars Rebels,' which is they were just a band on their own with very little communication to a major core."
He then went on to say that the show is building up a more united Rebellion, like what fans saw in the film.
The next episode of "Star Wars Rebels" airs on Sat., Oct. 8, at 8:30 p.m. on Disney XD.
