'Star Wars Rebels' season 3 rumors: Grand Admiral Thrawn is planning something big?

Last week's episode of "Star Wars Rebels" had the most screen time for Grand Admiral Thrawn so far, and audiences got to see the calm and calculated Imperial in action. Though the episode ended with Thrawn letting the rebels escape once more, fans speculated that he may be planning something else in the long run.

Star Wars Explained on Youtube went in depth on the episode "Hera's Heroes" and tried to predict what "Rebels" will have in store for the next episode. He pointed out that Thrawn has been letting the rebels escape whenever he runs into them, but he believed that Thrawn is "playing the long game" and is simply biding his time for the right time to strike. After all, Thrawn's goal is not to bring down the crew of the Ghost, but to bring down the entire Rebellion.

The episode also gave fans more insight on how Thrawn uses his knowledge of culture in order to get the upper hand on his enemies. It also showcased his attitude toward his troops and how he has always been calm and patient with them despite having a short outburst with one of his subordinates. Though Thrawn may be going easy on the rebels now, it may only add fuel to a huge blow he could be plotting against them.

The next episode in the season is titled "The Last Battle," and reports said it will see the return of Clone Commander Captain Rex. Based on the title alone, fans would expect that Rex will finally meet his end in the series. The trailers showed a resurrected group of Clone Wars-era Battle droids. Other fans also predicted that the episode will have the Ghost crew looking for a replacement for the Phantom which was destroyed earlier in the season.

"Star Wars Rebels" episode 5, "The Last Battle," will air on Saturday, Oct. 22, at 8 p.m. on Disney XD.
