'Star Wars: The Last Jedi' premiere date, news, plot spoilers: Mark Hamill reveals details about the upcoming film
The title to "Star Wars Episode VIII" was recently revealed, and Mark Hamill, who plays Luke Skywalker, revealed a few details about the title's plot. Meanwhile, director Rian Johnson is anticipated to bring something different to the "Star Wars" franchise.
The eighth film in the "Star Wars" franchise is set to premiere in December this year, and the title was only recently revealed, which is "The Last Jedi." Plot details are being kept under wraps, but Hamill shared details that may provide hints at what "The Last Jedi" might be about.
Mark Ryan of Uproxx interviewed Hamill during the Sundance Film Festival where the actor was supporting "Brigsby Bear."
When asked about the title, Hamill revealed that he didn't realize that the phrase was also in the scrawl for "Star Wars Episode VIII."
Hamill then explained, "When you read 'The Force Awakens' script, the very first two words are, 'Luke Skywalker has vanished. ... But down later in the crawl, and I can't quote it exactly ... 'Until Skywalker, the last Jedi, is destroyed.' I thought, well, I didn't know that! ... And I was wondering why they would use that phrase if it was used that way, because it specifies me. And I think it's very ambiguous. Is the last Jedi Leia (Carrie Fisher)? Is it me?"
The actor then speculated that it could also be someone that hasn't been introduced or it could be Rey (Daisy Ridley) as well since she also has the force within her.
While the meaning of "The Last Jedi" is still unknown, fans can expect that "Star Wars Episode VIII" will be something different from the previous films because of its director, Johnson.
A co-writer of "The Empire Strikes Back" and "Return of the Jedi" shared with Los Angeles Times, "Rian Johnson is a friend of mine — he's going to make some weird thing. If you've seen Rian's work, you know it's not going be like anything that's ever been in 'Star Wars.' "
"Star Wars Episode VIII: The Last Jedi" is set to premiere on Dec. 15.
