'Steven Universe' season 4 air date, spoilers: New sneak peak hints Lapis Lazuli-Peridot fusion; Voice actor Shelby Rabara talks Peridot's influence to viewers

Cartoon Network's "Steven Universe" is expected to return next month, and a new sneak peak for the fourth season's anticipated return has been released.

During last Friday's New York Comic Con (NYCC), creator Rebecca Sugar and the cast revealed a short teaser for the upcoming episode of the show featuring Steven with Peridot and Lapis Lazuli. In the two-minute promo clip, Steven and the Gems appear to be harvesting some pumpkins. Although some of it look ordinary, one pumpkin resembled a dog. The two Gens felt bad after discovering that it didn't like them, which made Steven feel guilty and admit he was the one who planted the live pumpkin. Peridot and Lapis Lazuli remained sad about their faceless pumpkin, so Steven carved one with a face for them.

The video's final moments showed Steven saying how nice it was to have a "new addition to the family." His statement led fans to speculate that  Lapis Lazuli and Peridot may have their fusion in the next episode and welcome a new character.

Previously on the series, Ruby and Sapphire also fused together and ended up creating Garnet. Titled "The Answer," the episode that explored Ruby and Sapphire's romance even earned a nomination in this year's Emmy Awards. Sugar also turned the duo's love story into a children's book, which has been in the New York Times' Bestseller list—proving that the series' story can resonate with a larger audience.

In the show's NYCC panel, Shelby Rabara, the voice of Peridot, shared her thoughts on her character's personality. Aside from her wild antics, Peridot easily became a fan-favorite because many believed that she falls along the autism spectrum.

"'I'm on the spectrum and Peridot really helped me when I have an outburst or when I'm having these feelings and I don't know how to get them out," Rabara said. "I'm happy that I can voice a character that gives people on the spectrum somebody to identify with."

"Steven Universe" season 4 returns with an episode titled "Gem Harvest" on November, but a definitive air date has yet to be announced.
