'Stranger Things' season 2 news, spoilers: Child actors talk about newfound fame
While some of them have previously appeared onstage and onscreen, it wasn't until this summer's water-cooler hit "Stranger Things" that cast members Millie Bobby Brown, Gaten Matarazzo and Caleb McLaughlin found widespread fame.
In an interview with E! News, the three young "Stranger Things" cast members spoke about how their lives have changed since appearing in the series, as well as the surprise of suddenly having hordes of fans, receiving praise from Hollywood stars, and being recognized in places like Starbucks.
In the first season of "Stranger Things," the supernatural horror sci-fi series that Netflix released this summer, Brown played the role of Eleven, a girl with psychokinetic abilities. Matarazzo and McLaughlin played the roles of Dustin and Lucas, respectively. The two boys were the friends of Will (Noah Schnapp), a 12-year-old who had mysteriously vanished. Will's mother, Joyce, was played by '90s screen icon Winona Ryder.
During their chat with with E!, Brown, Matarazzo and McLaughlin talked about receiving presents from "Stranger Things" fans and having stars such as Zac Efron and Aaron Paul proclaim that they are fans of the series and its cast. The young actors also talked about when they realized that "Stranger Things" had become the phenomenon that it is.
"I was at a Starbucks, and they didn't even ask my name," Brown said. "I was like, oh by the way, my name's Millie, and they were like, 'oh, we know,'" she added.
According to Matarazzo, this is how he knew that "Stranger Things" was a big thing: "It (the show) was just everywhere. Like we'd just walk around and people would be talking about it." He later added that it "warm[ed] [his] heart" to hear that people took the time to watch the series despite being very busy with their own movies and/or TV shows.
"Stranger Things," which was recently renewed for a second season, is currently streaming on Netflix.
In a recent chat with Yahoo! TV, "Stranger Things" executive producer Dan Cohen spoke about why it took Netflix so long to announce a renewal for the series when its other programs, such as "House of Cards," would get official renewals even before the season premieres drop.
"I think it's cool Netflix waited so long," Cohen said. "The attention is even more on the show now than when it came out. They like to take their time and do it their own way, and they certainly have a method to their actions, and once again, it proved effective," he added.
Netflix has yet to announce the official release date for "Stranger Things" season 2.
