'Stranger Things' season 2 release date and cast updates: 'Power Rangers' star added to cast
"Stranger Things" has easily grown to be one of the most popular shows to ever come out in 2016, and fans have been clamoring for more updates on the show. Two new cast members have been added to the series and one of them is "Power Rangers'" new Red Ranger, Dacre Montgomery.
According to Entertainment Weekly, Montgomery will be playing Billy, a confident teenager who drives a black Camaro and likes to steal girls away from their boyfriends. Could he possibly play a new love interest for Nancy (Natalie Dyer)? With the Nancy love triangle already involving Jonathan (Charlie Heaton) and Steve (Joe Keery), Billy's inclusion may make things a bit more complicated for the teens of the show.
The season has also cast Sadie Sink in the show, and she will play Billy's younger stepsister, Max. The character is described as a tomboy with a complex history. The first episode of the season is also titled "Mad Max" so it could mean that Sink's character will be introduced early on in the season.
Aside from the new cast members, first season guest stars Joe Keery and Noah Schnapp (Will Byers) have been leveled up to series regulars. The first season didn't showcase that much on Will since finding him was basically the premise of the entire first season, but with the cliffhanger in season 1, the second season should delve more into his experience in the Upside Down.
Keery's role of Steve was also cut short in season one, but having him return in the end may allow him to redeem himself in the coming season. What's more, a lot of fans are hoping that the show will confirm Steve's relationship to "Parks and Recreation's" Jean-Ralphio (Ben Schwartz), as the Duffer Brothers have confirmed that some fan theories have actually been proven to be right.
"Stranger Things" season 2 will air in 2017.
