Netflix's breakout sci-fi series "Stranger Things" comes back to the airwaves sometime this year, and the show's cast and creative team recently revealed teasers on what's up ahead for the show's second season.

In an interview with Vanity Fair, director and executive producer Shawn Levy hinted that the supersized new season will be darker than the previous installment. Although new faces will be introduced, Levy assures fans that it will focus on the main characters and keep true to the "magical storytelling" in season 1.

"Season 2 is bigger and potentially darker in its stakes," the EP said, adding: "The threat, which in Season 1 was to Will Byers, has grown. That's all I'm going to say! But, I will say Season 2 has a bigger cast and is definitely loyal to the kind of magical storytelling that we established in the first season. It's character-based and still about our core group of characters."

Considering the show's quick rise in popularity, actor David Harbour admits that he's already feeling the pressure for season 2. The 41-year-old actor attended Sunday night's Golden Globes, and while walking the red carpet, he mentioned that he's confident viewers will be happy with the work they're doing for the upcoming season.

"I think that we did a really nice job with season one," he said. "I think we all feel like we want to step it up and make season two richer and more interesting. We got a tough road ahead," the actor added.

The show's original cast, including Winona Ryder and Millie Bobby Brown, are all coming back for another go this year. Noah Schnapp — who plays Will Byers — has been promoted to series regular, while newcomers include "Mad About You" actor Paul Reiser and "Goonies" star Sean Astin.

The second season of "Stranger Things" is expected to premiere in June 2017, but Netflix has yet to announce an official release date.
