'Super Mario Odyssey' updates: Nintendo to announce more details on E3 2017
After the debut of the upcoming "Super Mario Odyssey" during the Nintendo Switch live event in New York, Nintendo also revealed that they will divulge more details about the upcoming game during the Electronic Entertainment Expo (E3) 2017 event this June.
Nintendo of America president Reggie Fils-Aime told IGN during the launching event for the company's upcoming gaming console system that they intended to make the announcement about the next installment of the "Super Mario" game franchise but decided to conceal some of the game's details until the next annual E3 event.
"The only decision that was made from an E3 consideration standpoint was 'do we show Super Mario Odyssey from a hands-on perspective today versus E3?' And we're going to show it at E3," Fils-Aime said during the interview. "But at least from a Nintendo perspective, there's no other consideration that is driven by E3."
However, the game developer did reveal that "Super Mario Odyssey" will be an open-world platform game that will be released sometime during the Holiday 2017. It will be the seventh original 3D title for the "Super Mario" franchise, but it will also be the sixteenth installment of the whole "Super Mario" series.
Game creator Shigeru Miyamoto revealed during the Nintendo Switch launch that the "Super Mario Odyssey" will go back to the franchise' roots by featuring more exploration-based gameplay. This means that they will veer away from the casually friendly gaming approach that can be seen in recent "Super Mario" 3D games.
According to the game's official description that was posted on Express UK, "This is the first sandbox game that allows Mario to fully explore his world since Super Mario 64 on Nintendo 64 and Super Mario Sunshine on Nintendo GameCube."
The game will reportedly feature the legendary character Mario as its main protagonist, while Princess Peach, Mario's Cap and a golden lion will also be featured as the game's supporting characters.
More details are expected to be revealed about the upcoming "Super Mario Odyssey" in the coming days.
