Kara (Melissa Benoist) and Mon-El (Chris Wood) will have a lot to talk about after the midseason finale of "Supergirl" season 2. When the action-adventure drama series returns next year, viewers can expect to see major development in their blossoming relationship.

It can be recalled that in episode 8, Mon-El, believing he would die after Cadmus unleashed Project Medusa, kissed Kara but acted like nothing happened when he was healed.

"They're both obviously playing coy about what happened, neither admitting that they actually did kiss, so how and when that comes out is going to be fun and delicious," executive producer Andrew Kreisberg told Entertainment Weekly.

"Supergirl" fans have been enjoying seeing Kara and Mon-El's relationship progress especially given the characters' intense chemistry. However, it has been hinted that trouble will be coming in the upcoming episodes and it might significantly hinder the two from truly becoming close.

"Secrets are never healthy in a relationship and obviously, Mon-El is holding onto something. We got a little taste that his life on Daxam might not be as over as we think from the glimpse of the space farers, who are on the hunt for him. So it will definitely play a big part in their relationship moving forward," Kreisberg told EW in a separate interview.

Whether Mon-El could actually be the Daxamite prince, Kreisberg refused to comment.

"Supergirl" is slated to return on Jan. 23, 2017 with episode 9 titled "Supergirl Lives," which is directed by Kevin Smith.

In the first sneak peek for the upcoming episode, Kara is seen arriving at a bar. While ordering a club soda, she is surprised to find Mon-El working there as the bartender. Kara opens up to Mon-El and says that she is not feeling her best but is looking forward to doing a story about a missing girl. Mon-El warns her that trouble could find her. The clip ends with Kara spitting out her drink and running off.

Season 2 of "Supergirl" airs Mondays at 8 p.m. EST on The CW.
