While "Supergirl" is considered as an action-adventure television series, a significant number of viewers also tune in to see the relationships between the characters and the heartwarming storylines featured in the show. Recently, fans have been looking forward to witnessing the blossoming relationship of Alex (Chyler Leigh) and Maggie (Floriana Lima), also known as "Sanders."

Fans were disappointed when executive producer Andrew Kreisberg revealed earlier this month that despite Alex and Maggie's kiss in the midseason finale, their relationship will not be devoid of mistakes and that difficult situations will be coming down the road for the new couple. Thankfully, Kreisberg has reassured fans that "Sanders" will be an important part of the narrative this season.

"The important thing is that we've committed to this relationship and we've committed to seeing it grow, change, blossom, and struggle, but also get stronger, deeper and more loving as we go forward," he told Entertainment Weekly.

Even though the relationship may not be perfect, the showrunner added that what's important is that they have a vision for the couple.

"It's going to have its ups and downs, but we're committed to Alex and Maggie—we've as committed to Alex and Maggie as the audience is," he added.

Aside from the Alex–Maggie relationship, viewers can expect to see a lot of things happening in the upcoming midseason premiere of "Supergirl." The CW has released the promo for the episode titled "Supergirl Lives" directed by filmmaker and comic book writer Kevin Smith.

Based on what has been revealed so far, some of the things to look out for include Mon-El's (Chris Wood) secret and fate after the midseason finale, the return of villain Roulette (Dichen Lachman), and Kara (Melissa Benoist) being incapacitated by what appears to be a red planet.

Season 2 of "Supergirl" will return on Monday, Jan. 23, 2017, at 8 p.m. EST on The CW.
