'Supernatural' season 12 release date, spoilers news 2016: Sam and Dean end up in a maximum security prison; British Men of Letters to return
Fans will be seeing more of the British Men of Letters when the latter part of The CW's "Supernatural" season 12 returns next year.
In the midseason finale titled "Lotus," Lucifer took his evil plans to the next level and possessed the president of the United States. Dean (Jensen Ackles) and Sam (Jared Padalecki) tried to send the King of Hell back to where he came from, but they got arrested by the Secret Service for trying to assassinate the country's leader. Things took a shocking turn when it was revealed that Lucifer impregnated a woman who is part of the president's staff. At the end of the episode, the POTUS managed to survive his stint as Lucifer's vessel, thanks to the exorcism bomb unleashed by the British Men of Letters.
The season's 9th episode is titled "First Blood," and it will feature the Winchester brothers dealing with the consequences of their actions in the midseason finale. The latest promo clip shows Sam and Dean locked separately in a maximum security prison, with Castiel and Mary also being caught by the same agents guarding the siblings.
"Supernatural" showrunner Robert Singer recently caught up with Entertainment Weekly, and he revealed that fans will be seeing more of the British Men of Letters as they take action in the back half of season 12 airing next year.
"The British Men of Letters are very big in the second half [of the season]," Singer told the media outlet's Spoiler Room segment. "They're certainly helpful in episode 9, and then we play them out in a really interesting way. I think the first half of the season with the British Men of Letters was a little bit of a tease letting the audience know what their capabilities were and what their goals were, and they're quite heavy in the second half," he went on to say.
The 12th season of "Supernatural" returns to TV screens on Thursday, Jan. 26, at 8 p.m. ET on The CW.
