"Supernatural" season 12 promises to be an explosive installment, and with a little over a month before it premieres, here's good news for its avid viewers. The series will see fan-favorite character Castiel in standalone episodes that show him for what he truly is—a warrior.

That much was confirmed by the series' new showrunner, Andrew Dabb, in an interview with Entertainment Weekly (EW). He said old school Castiel (Misha Collins) will figure in most of season 12's episodes.

"This year, especially toward the middle of the season, we're using Castiel in stand-alone episodes in a way that he hasn't been used in a long time," Dabb told EW.

It's actually one of Collins' wishes, that is, to see Castiel go back to being season 4's badass warrior. Fans of the series probably miss seeing him in full battle mode. It will be recalled that Cas has been possessed by Lucifer (Mark Pellegrino) for quite some time, and now that he's free from Lucifer's ministrations, it looks like vengeance will be foremost in Castiel's mind.

"I'd kind of like to see him go back to being the badass warrior Cas from Season 4 for a little bit, and revisit that aspect of his character," Collins told Zap2It during the San Diego Comic-Con last July. "Every time I've said what I wanted on the show in the past, it has not come to fruition. So, I thought that wasn't going to happen but that's how we're starting Season 12."

It's also very likely that some of the standalone episodes that will feature Castiel will tell a bit about his angel backstory. In fact, Dabb said that in particular, episode 12 of "Supernatural" season 12 will be an important one for Castiel.

"That's very heavily about Castiel and the journey he's been on, some things from his past that we're not aware of are being brought to light."

Meanwhile, TV Line has confirmed that Adam Rose will be returning to the series to reprise the role of Aaron Bass. Fans will remember him as the grandson of one of the members of the Judah Initiative, a secret group of rabbis formed to fight the Thule Society.

He first appeared on the "Everybody Hates Hitler" episode of season 8. This time around, Rose will appear in this season's fifth episode, which will see the Thule Society enacting their master plan to bring back Hitler.

According to Dabb, Sam and Dean Winchester (played by Jared Padalecki and Jensen Ackles, respectively) will fight Hitler, and Aaron (Rose) will be there to back them up.

"Supernatural" season 12 premieres Thursday, Oct. 13, at 9 p.m. ET/PT on The CW.
