'Supernatural' season 12 spoilers: no Bobby this season? Jim Beaver interested in returning
With Samantha Smith back as Mary Winchester and the showrunners open to Jeffrey Dean Morgan reprising his role as the Winchester patriarch in the future, there is another comeback fans are looking forward to in "Supernatural" season 12.
Dean (Jensen Ackles) and Sam's (Jared Padalecki) father figure, Bobby (Jim Beaver), is hoped to make another return at some point this season.
However, the actor himself suggested that this might not come to pass. He took to Twitter to say that "Supernatural" season 12 might be the first season he will sit out.
"Starting to get a sick feeling that this will be the first season ever that I'm not in Supernatural," the actor tweeted out.
As fans know, although Bobby already met his maker in season 7 of the series, he still turned up in the seasons that followed as he guided Sam and Dean as a ghost. He also appeared in some flashbacks.
However, it looks like "Supernatural" season 12 will not bring Bobby back despite the return of Mary from the grave. She died early in the series.
Beaver expressed interest in sharing the small screen with Smith on the series. "Bobby [and] Mary scenes. That would be cool. I LOVE [Samantha Smith], would love to work w/her." He even quipped that his character and Dean look alike and could actually be related.
For now, however, there is no "Supernatural" season 12 appearance lined up for Bobby. It was already challenging to interweave the Lucifer and the British Men of Letters storylines this season.
Speaking to TVLine, executive producer Andrew Dabb said that characters like Castiel (Misha Collins) and Crowley (Mark Sheppard) had to be slightly sidelined to cater to the said storylines so it may have been tough bringing Bobby to the fold.
What fans can expect in "Supernatural" season 12 for now are three Castiel-centric episodes and more British Men of Letters.
"Supernatural" season 12 returns on Thursday, Jan. 26, 2017, on The CW.
