'Supernatural' season 12 spoilers, updates: Castiel's power in full blast? Sam and Dean learn how to deal with Mary?
Fans of "Supernatural" season 12 would bear witness to a big family reunion when the show returns on the small screen this October. Sam and Dean's mother is back from the dead while Castiel gets to be his badass angel self again.
If "Supernatural" season 11 explored a dark mythological arc, the upcoming season would be giving way to a more family-based storyline. That's because Mary Winchester (Samantha Smith), Dean and Sam's (Jensen Ackles and Jared Padalecki, respectively) mother who's been dead for 33 years, has been brought back to life.
It would be worth anticipating how the brothers would react to having their mother around and back in their lives, especially since they practically spent their whole lives without her. According to Ackles, how they respond to her presence would be one of "Supernatural" season 12's main arcs
"It presents a dynamic we haven't had," Ackles told Variety. "When mom [died], Sam was a baby and Dean was a child... The children that she knew are now men, the relationship is kind of nonexistent, so it's going to be an interesting situation of them trying to bridge the gap that occurred over the last thirty-some years."
Mary might join her sons in their hunting trips, but it remains to be seen if she would be an asset or a liability to them, seeing as how she might be a bit apprehensive of the fact that her sons took on the same path she and her husband did.
Meanwhile, it has been reported that Mischa Collins' character, Castiel, would be back to being his badass angel self again. It would be recalled that Cas was a powerful angel who was stripped of his "angelic" rights and reduced to being a human. As a human, Cas fell prey to Lucifer, but now that he's back to his old self, he would be exacting revenge. Collins described his character as being "a man on a mission ... to hunt down Lucifer." He also teased that the full extent of his powers would be back.
"For a long time on the show, Cas has been in one way or another cobbled, because the writers didn't want him to be too powerful, they didn't want him to be able to solve Sam and Dean's problems with the snap of his fingers all the time," Collins told Hypable during the recent San Diego Comic-Con.
"Supernatural" season 12 premieres Oct. 13 on The CW.
