Surface Pro 4 Release News: Under Development; Rumors Belied
Following the successful launch of the Microsoft Surface Pro 3, it was rumored that it would be the last one for the Surface Pro line.
However, this rumor was quickly debunked when Brian Hall, general manager for Surface, issued a statement saying, "We are pleased to share that the following Surface Pro 3 accessories are designed with our product roadmap in mind and will be compatible with the next generation of the 'Pro' line of Surface."
The statement not only belied the rumor but also brought the idea that the next Surface Pro "laplet" (combination of laptop and tablet), as it is now being called, is already under development.
Satya Nadella, Microsoft CEO, backed this up in another statement. "Microsoft is putting its full and sustained support behind the ongoing Surface program as one of a number of great hardware choices for businesses large and small," she said in a statement.
She also mentioned that the strength of Microsoft products is the "rich ecosystem of hardware and applications."
Currently, the Surface Pro 3 is aimed at working professionals as it addresses productivity and ease of use. The Surface Pro 4 is expected to exceed the specifications of the Surface Pro 3 in terms of display and operating system. It is expected to introduce the upcoming Windows 9 or Windows 10.
According to reports, the Surface Pro will be similar to Surface Pro 3 in terms of dimensions: 12-inch IPS LCD with 21690 x 1440 pixels with 216 ppi.
However, it will come with a faster processor and higher RAM.
As for the price, it is expected to be within the $1,000 to $2,000 range.
