'Terminator' news: Arnold Schwarzenegger withdraws from franchise; film series canceled by Paramount?

Arnold Schwarzenegger, who was involved in the franchise from the first film released in 1984, has reportedly resigned from the movie series.

"The Terminator" is not the only thing Schwarzenegger dropped recently. He also resigned from serving as the host of "Celebrity Apprentice," blaming the show's declining ratings to the owner and current US president Donald Trump.

Schwarzenegger pulling out from the film franchise has led many fans to believe that the "Terminator" series will be discontinued, an idea that strengthened when an unnamed source reported that Paramount is canceling the "Terminator" series.

This report appeared on NY Daily News, saying that "Terminator 6" was pulled out from the schedule after 2015's "Terminator Genisys," which was supposed to reboot the series, was heavily criticized even though it did perform well in the box office. The source also said that Schwarzenegger's age is a factor of him dropping the franchise. The actor is now 70 years old. In "Terminator Genisys" a computer-generated double was created for him in his role as the T-800.

Paramount has not released an official statement on this matter yet. Should this be true, it does not necessarily mean that the "Terminator" series will no longer be followed through as another production company can pick up the franchise.

On the other hand, Collider also reported that Skydance head David Ellison recently announced that there will be an update on the "Terminator" series this year. He said: "We have something this year that we will be announcing for the franchise. It's something we're incredibly excited about and we think is the direction it needs to head."

He also indicated that the franchise will be continued, alluding that the storyline will go where fans want it to go. He said: "I will say we have resolved the future of the franchise and believe me it's an incredibly bright future. I think where it's going will be the continuation of what the fans really wanted since T2."

The same report also said that James Cameron is attached to the film sequel.

Emilia Clarke, who played Sarah Connor in "Terminator Genisys," has already expressed in an interview with ComingSoon.net that she will not be reprising her role.
