Tesla Model 3 release date, specs and price news: Can Tesla keep its promise to release Model 3 in 2017?
After the successful launch of Tesla Model 3 in March, speculations claim that some of those who ordered the upcoming all-electric luxury sedan might get their unit much later than expected.
Earlier reports claimed that for those who already preordered the Tesla Model 3 the electric car will arrive in selected markets in late 2017. However, those who will decide to preorder the luxury electric car from now might get their unit sometime in 2018.
According to a report from BGR, Tesla is known for making delivery promises that may be hard to keep just like what it did when it released the Tesla Model X. This could also happen in Tesla Model 3, especially since the demand for the upcoming automobile surpassed expectations. At the moment, the car manufacturer received as much as 400,000 reservations since buyers only need to pay $1,000 to secure a unit.
Electrek cited the speculation of Morgan Stanley analyst Adam Jones regarding the possible release date of the upcoming Tesla Model 3, in which he said that the car maker might have to push back the car's release date one year after its initial plans.
"We continue to forecast a Model 3 launch at the very end of 2018 (more than 1 year later than company target) with 60k units in 2019 and 130k units in 2020," Jones stated in a note that was reported by the publication.
But while the analyst appeared skeptic about Tesla's promise to release Model 3 in 2017, he seemed to be more positive about the car's Autopilot feature. "We estimate Tesla's global fleet drives around 5 million miles per day with around 1/3 of these miles on autopilot," the analyst stated in the same note. "We also estimate the pace of daily miles traveled to double in just over 1 year, putting Tesla in a very unique position to push the state of the art of algorithmic driving and machine learning in personal transport."
Tesla has yet to comment on the speculations about the possible delay of the Model 3 units.
