'The Affair' season 3 episode 3 spoilers: Noah fights like never before; Juliette finds alluring prospect for Noah
An unexpected event forces Noah to fight like never before in the upcoming episode of Showtime's riveting drama "The Affair" season 3.
Titled "Episode 3," next week's episode will see Noah finding himself in the middle of a complicated situation. According to the official synopsis, Juliette (Irene Jacob) is still running away from her secrets she left behind in Paris. As she becomes closer to Noah (Dominic West), she manages to find an alluring prospect for him. However, things will take a dark turn when a terrifying event shatters all hope of their seemingly easy affair. Also, Noah is forced to fight like never before as he attempts to make sense of what just happened.
In a recent interview with Vanity Fair, "The Affair" co-writer Sarah Treem revealed that she didn't really set out to change the show's structure dramatically. As it heads to its third episode of the season, "The Affair" will explore more of the characters' darker side.
"The idea this season is that in all of us are multiple selves, some of which we can identify, and some of which we can't," Treem explained. "This idea of a shadow self, the darker side of our own personalities that we can't necessarily see, and how they haunt us and sometimes control us if we really deny them: that would be the philosophy behind the season."
Meanwhile, Jacob's arrival as Juliette certainly made a mark on Noah's life. According to Treem, the purpose of introducing her in the story is to let viewers examine Noah from a new point of view during one of the most difficult times of his life.
"We needed to separate Noah from the places that he'd been already," Treem continued. "He's no longer with Helen. He's no longer with Alison, so there was going to be a new trajectory for Noah. In order to tell that trajectory from multiple sides, which is what we do on this show, we needed a new character to inform us about the truth of that trajectory that Noah himself couldn't see."
