'The Big Bang Theory' prequel cast news, plot spoilers: 'Young Sheldon' main cast announced; Marvel director helms pilot episode
Young Sheldon (Iain Armitage) and the rest of his family members have already been cast. Meanwhile, the prequel's pilot episode will be directed by a Marvel head who worked on the "Iron Man" trilogy.
"The Big Bang Theory" is on its way to an 11th season, but a prequel featuring a young Sheldon back in Texas is already under way, as The Hollywood Reporter shared that CBS has confirmed to pick up the series prequel.
The first two characters that have been cast in the series are young Sheldon, to be played by Armitage, and his mother, Mary, to be portrayed by Zoe Perry. It took CBS and Warner Bros. Television a while to cast the rest of the Cooper family, but the actors to play Sheldon's siblings and father have already been announced.
Raegan Revord will be playing Sheldon's fraternal twin sister, Missy; Montana Jordan will portray Sheldon's older brother, George Jr.; and Lance Barber will play Sheldon's father.
The show is pegged to have a "Malcom in the Middle" vibe, but an episode count and a premiere date are not yet announced.
Meanwhile, the comedy series that will be headed by Chuck Lorre and Steve Molaro has snatched Jon Favreau as the director for the pilot of the "Young Sheldon" prequel series, Deadline reports.
Judging by Favreau's work from the "Iron Man" trilogy, the pilot is expected to catch the attention of several viewers, especially followers of "The Big Bang Theory" franchise.
It was said that the writers of "Young Sheldon" l will have a lot of references to use from the 10th season of "The Big Bang Theory" since a lot of episodes in that season featured stories from Sheldon's childhood. This will be a lot different to how the writers do it with the mother series, as they work on the story episode by episode.
"The Big Bang Theory" prequel featuring young Sheldon is expected to premiere this 2017.
