'The Big Bang Theory' renewal news: Jim Parsons speaks out on show's possible 11th season
"The Big Bang Theory" season 10 is already past its halfway mark, and CBS still hasn't announced a renewal for the top-rating sitcom. With the show's future up in the air, lead actor Jim Parsons recently voiced out his opinion about the possibility of a cancellation.
As previously reported, the cast members are currently in contract negotiations as season 10 approaches its finale. Parsons spoke with The Today Show on Saturday, and he appears to be confident about the long-running comedy's fate. "I know that everybody wants to," the actor said. "So I would be shocked if that didn't happen. I really would be," he added.
He isn't the first cast member to openly discuss the possibility of another season. Johnny Galecki, who plays Leonard, previously mentioned that he's willing to stay as long as the writers keep bringing interesting ideas. However, it seems that Kaley Cuoco is not a hundred percent up to it.
If one thing is for sure, CBS will have to give a higher offer to its stars to keep the series on the air. Given the amount of money the cast made last season, bringing all of them back may be a bit difficult. Parsons, Cuoco, and Galecki made $1 million per episode last season, while Mayim Bialik and Melissa Rauch are said to make just 10 percent of that — $100,000.
President of CBS entertainment, Glenn Geller, was at the Television Critics Association winter press tour earlier this year, and he stated that the company remains "optimistic" about the negotiations. "We are in negotiations, but it is definitely business as usual," Geller said. "We are guardedly optimistic that we will make a deal," he went on to say.
It was reported last year that a Sheldon-centered spinoff for "The Big Bang Theory" is now in the works, and it will explore the character's growing years. Parsons won't be starring in the upcoming show, but he will serve as one of its executive producers.
