"The Blacklist" season 4 promises to answer fans' burning questions about the season 3 finale when it returns to the small screens this September.

In a nutshell, season 3 saw Elizabeth "Liz" Keen (Megan Boone) faking her own death so she and her daughter Agnes could get away from Raymond "Red" Reddington (James Spader). Liz, along with her husband Tom (Ryan Eggold), planned to escape to Cuba, but the former was abducted by Alexander Kirk (Ulrich Thomsen), thereby thwarting their plans. Kirk later on revealed that he was Liz's biological father.

"The Blacklist" will return for its fourth season with Red going all out in his efforts to find Liz. Entertainment Weekly (EW) shared a video highlight of the season 3 finale with an exclusive sneak peek of season 4. In the video, it looks like instead of a happy family reunion between Liz and Kirk, the reunion will be between Liz and Red, as Liz will not think twice about accepting Red's help. Check out the video below:

Based on the teaser video, it looks like the upcoming installment of the hit NBC series will likewise explore Liz's "twisted past." Fans could expect her back story to be laid out in bits and pieces, and perhaps, there will be an explanation as to why Kirk went through extreme lengths to find her and reveal himself as her father.

However, is he really Liz's dad? Executive producers Jon Bokenkamp and John Eisendrath seem to believe so, as they said in an interview with EW back in May.

"I don't know why we wouldn't believe him. Red's said before that he's not Liz's father. This man shows up in her life and says he's her father. Liz should take him at his word. She thought she shot her father. It raises a number of questions, which is going to be the joy of season 4," Bokenkamp told EW.

Season 4 will also see Liz's biological mother, Katarina Rostova (Lotte Verbeek) appearing in two episodes in season 4. According to reports, it remains to be seen if Katarina will be seen through flashbacks or if she's returning in the flesh.

At any rate, fans could expect "The Blacklist" season 4 address questions that may be plaguing their minds.

"The questions of who Red is to her, why he cares so deeply for her, what he wants from her—that's all that ultimately really matters, and when we took Liz away from them the fans were rightfully upset. Hopefully, they see we're not going to abandon that relationship, no matter how strained it becomes. And believe me—it will be strained. But that relationship is everything," the showrunners told Deadline.

"The Blacklist" season 4 premieres Thursday, Sept. 22 at 10 p.m. ET on NBC.
