"The Blacklist" spinoff having been officially ordered and announced by NBC early this year has brought excitement to fans of the NBC crime drama.

Now there is even more anticipation as more details and ideas about the development of the spinoff show emerge. The upcoming series, titled "The Blacklist: Redemption," will feature Tom Keen (Ryan Eggold) and his alleged mother, Susan Scott "Scottie" Hargrave (Famke Janssen).

In an interview with TV Line, Eggold disclosed as much details as he could about "The Blacklist" follow-up series. And it is rather surprising to learn from the lead star that he "heard a whisper" about the spinoff a long time ago which means way back during the period of season 1 to season 2.

In "The Blacklist: Redemption," Keen will work for Scottie as a spy. This underground circle of corporate organizations and spies he will be involved with will only be a part of the entirety of the show's theme. The spinoff show will also be politically charged given the spies' association with the government and the colossal private businesses. The supposed relationship between Keen and Scottie as son and mother will be a curious angle to unravel in the show. It has yet to be ascertained if there is truth to this revelation.

Eggold observed that the creation of "The Blacklist: Redemption" was not easy yet "very educational" for them in the production. The spinoff seems like a product of spontaneous ideas that stream in from brainstorming. "The Blacklist" protagonist also posed a lot of questions which might be the same with those of the viewers and which they intend to tackle in the spinoff. The answers to these questions should involve establishing the past events and the past circumstances of the characters in order to understand the present and the reason the characters made decisions that brought them to who they are today.

Janssen and Eggold will be joined in the roster of characters by Edi Gathegi as Matias Solomon and Tawny Cypress as Nez Rowan. "The Blacklist" season 3, episode 21 titled "Susan Hargrave" served as the backdoor pilot episode for "The Blacklist: Redemption."
