After the massive success enjoyed by Netflix's "The Crown" with the release of its first season, it is not surprising that many are eagerly anticipating the arrival of its second season later this year. And with a new season comes a new chapter in the life of the reigning British Monarch, Queen Elizabeth II, as portrayed by English actress Claire Foy.

As reported by The Christian Post, the second season of the biographical drama will tackle the life of Queen Elizabeth II in the years between 1955 and 1964. Around this time, the most notable events in the British Empire include the Suez Crisis and the short yet controversial term of Anthony Eden (Jeremy Northam) as Prime Minister.

In an interview with People, series creator and writer Peter Morgan revealed that the "The Crown" season 2 will be featuring a greater emphasis on Elizabeth's husband, Prince Philip, and it will also be introducing a greater role for the Queen's oldest son and direct heir, Prince Charles.

"We start to focus on Charles as a young boy and his education, and on Philip and his back story," Morgan said.

In the same interview, executive producer Suzanne Mackie added, "We glance backward to Philip's childhood and his upbringing, and how that might have impacted him as a man, a father and as Prince Consort — which is fascinating."

"The Crown" season 2 will also be adding a familiar face to its cast. According to TV Line, Matthew Goode, known for his roles in "The Good Wife" and "Downton Abbey," has joined the season 2 cast of Netflix's Golden Globe-winning period drama.

Goode will be playing Lord Snowdon — also known as Antony Armstrong-Jones — the society photographer who was married to Elizabeth's younger sister, Princess Margaret, from 1960 until 1978. Considering how Elizabeth and Margaret bickered over the princess' ill-fated romance with Peter Townsend in season 1, it will be interesting to see how the Queen receives the new man in her sister's life.

"The Crown" season 2 is scheduled to premiere in late 2017 on Netflix.
