'The Fate of the Furious' premiere date, cast news, spoilers: Dom betrays the family; Charlize Theron cast as a sympathetic villain

Things are about to change when Dominic Toretto (Vin Diesel) starts betraying the people he calls his own family. Meanwhile, Charlize Theron will be playing a villain that can garner sympathy votes from viewers.

In the upcoming "Fast 8" film titled "The Fate of the Furious," Dom will betray his own family. The movie's synopsis reads, "When a mysterious woman seduces Dom into the world of crime and a betrayal of those closest to him, the crew face trials that will test them as never before."

As seen from the trailer, his crew members — Hobbs (Dwayne Johnson), Letty (Michelle Rodriguez), Tej (Ludacris), and Roman (Tyrese Gibson) — will be blindsided of Dom's betrayal, but they won't be giving up on him just yet.

Meanwhile, the mysterious woman that lures Dom into the life of crime is a woman named Cipher, who plans to bring mayhem in New York City, Den of Geek reports.

"Fast 8" composer Brian Tyler shared with Entertainment Weekly that Theron portrayed Cipher in a sympathetic kind light.

"There's no question the havoc and villainy she brings [but] you're attracted to it. There's something where you can kind of see yourself in this villain that makes it more disturbing and, at the same time, more interesting. It's the sympathetic villains, in a way, who really get under your skin," Tyler explained.

The composer also commented on what director F. Gary Gray will be bringing to "The Fate of the Furious." Tyler said that Gray was able to juggle action, comedy, and drama in one beat and that it will surprise the viewers in a way.

Tyler added that it reminded him of the way he worked for films made by Marvel. He said, "We have different characters who were allowed to become really distinct."

"The Fate of the Furious" is slated to premiere on April 15.
