'The Flash' cast rumors, spoilers updates: Captain Cold, Golden Glider rumored to be main villains
While not much is currently known about the cast and plot of "The Flash," rumors have surfaced, naming the possible villains who will face off against the titular super speedster in the upcoming DC Extended Universe film.
Last week, Heroic Hollywood's editor-in-chief, Umberto Gonzalez, announced via Periscope that the film will feature a group of villains instead of one big bad. Specifically, Gonzalez revealed that The Flash will be battling The Rogues. In the DC Comics, The Rogues include Captain Boomerang, Captain Cold, Mirror Master, Heat Wave, Weather Wizard, The Trickster, and many others.
Two of the Rogues — The Top and Mirror Master — are set to appear in the upcoming season of "The Flash" on The CW. Weather Wizard, The Trickster, and Captain Boomerang have previously appeared in the series, while Heat Wave and Captain Cold are two of the main characters in The CW's "Legends of Tomorrow."
According to ComicBook.com, should there to be truth to Gonzalez's scoop, it can be assumed that "The Flash" will feature Captain Boomerang, who was played by Jai Courtney in this year's "Suicide Squad." In the film, Captain Boomerang was locked up after he was caught by The Flash, played by Ezra Miller, during a heist.
The website also noted that there have been rumors claiming that "Suicide Squad" originally portrayed Captain Boomerang as the least likable of the film's supervillains to set him up as one of the main villains in "The Flash." However, after the film went through several rounds of editing, Captain Boomerang's villainy was significantly toned down, and he was reduced to not much more than a lewd and racist minor character.
After what fans have seen of Captain Boomerang in "Suicide Squad," it is now anyone's guess whether the character will work as a convincing villain in "The Flash" or not.
Meanwhile, following the news that The Rogues will be in "The Flash," Mashable senior film reporter Jeff Sneider identified the two Rogues who could become the main villains in the upcoming film.
On Monday, Aug. 29, Sneider tweeted: "Seeing rumors about the Rogues in THE FLASH. FWIW, last week I heard villains are Rogues members Golden Glider and her bro Captain Cold."
"The Flash" is expected to begin filming in London in 2017. It is scheduled to premiere on March 16, 2018.
