'The Flash' season 3 news: Can Team Flash alter Iris' fate? Savitar's identity to be revealed?
Barry Allen, aka The Flash (Grant Gustin), has never been good at keeping secrets, so it comes as no surprise that the next episode of The CW's superhero series "The Flash" will feature him telling his girlfriend Iris West (Candice Patton) about her impending death.
In a new promo trailer for the next episode titled "Borrowing Problems From the Future," Barry and the rest of Team Flash are shown hard at work finding out a way to avert Iris' fate without repeating the mistakes of the Flashpoint timeline. They will try to identify every event leading up to Iris' death at the hands of Savitar (Tobin Bell), believing that altering even just a single step could lead to a more favorable future.
Barry is now more aware of the consequences of messing up with the timeline, but he has also never been more serious about keeping someone he cares for alive. As the trailer suggests, he and newly minted hero Wally West, Kid Flash (Keiynan Lonsdale), will be working hand-in-hand in altering the future in order to save the woman they both care about.
However, will they be able to do it without causing some consequential alterations in the timeline that may potentially lead to worse results? Will Iris' salvation be somebody else's demise?
In other news, there has been a theory going around that Savitar's real identity will finally be revealed when "The Flash" season 3 returns for its second half, and he may well be none other than Barry himself from either an alternate or a future timeline. Fans are speculating that the message that Future Barry made in 2056 and Dr. Stein (Victor Garber) from "DC's Legends of Tomorrow" eventually heard was recorded right after Barry trapped Savitar in the speed force. This also leads to the theory that the "war" that Barry described in the message was not referring to the Dominators, but was rather about the speedster god, Savitar, all along.
All these questions will be answered when "The Flash" season 3 returns on Tuesday, Jan. 24, 2017, at 8 p.m. EST on The CW.
