'The Flash' season 3 spoilers, news: Rick Cosnett teases return as Eddie Thawne; Robbie Amell to reprise role as Ronnie Raymond

Iris' (Candice Patton) brutal death at the hands of Savitar won't be the only problem Barry (Grant Gustin) has to deal with when "The Flash" returns for season 3.

Earlier this week, Rick Cosnett announced on social media that he will be reprising his role as Eddie Thawne in the hit superhero drama. "Hate to tease you but now I can say it: I'm coming back on #TheFlash," the actor wrote on Twitter.

Following his exit back in season 1 when CCPD Detective Eddie Thawne sacrificed himself to stop the existence of his nefarious descendant Eobard (Matt Letscher), Cosnett reprised his role halfway through season 2. At the time, Barry traveled back in time to meet Dr. Wells, also known as Eobard Thawne. Since then, Cosnett has appeared as guest star on other TV shows such as "Quantico" and "Castle."

The news of Cosnett's return comes just days after it was announced that Robbie Amell will also be making a comeback. According to reports, the 28-year-old is set to appear as the dearly departed Ronnie Raymond in an upcoming episode of the series. Unfortunately, details about his return are still being kept under wraps.

Cast member Danielle Panabaker also shared the news of Amell's appearance on her personal Twitter account, saying "Woo hoo!" The actress seems very excited for the return of her on-screen partner. Back in season 1, Ronnie was introduced as Caitlyn's (Panabaker) fiancé. Being a structural engineer, he worked with her and the rest of the S.T.A.R. Labs team to come up with the famed particle accelerator that transformed Barry into the Flash.

After the accelerator exploded, many Central City residents turned into meta-humans. Team Flash believed that Ronnie had died while trying to contain the explosion. It was later revealed that he also became a meta-human as one-half of the conjoint hero Firestorm.

The third season "The Flash" returns Tuesday, Jan. 24, at 8 p.m. ET on The CW.
