'The Flash' Spoilers, Plot Recap: Tricksters Arrive as Reverse Flash's Identity is Unveiled
Last Tuesday's episode of "The Flash" on CW featured a pair of tricksters – the original and his copycat – and a big reveal about "Reverse Flash," the villain who killed the mother of Barry/The Flash (Grant Gustin).
The show started off with a flashback: Dr. Harrison Wells (Tom Cavanagh), the creator of Central City's S.T.A.R. Labs Particle Accelerator, was happily driving home one night together with his wife Tess Morgan, who shared his love of science. Suddenly, their car crashed, instantly killing Morgan. Wells, badly injured, saw a figure approaching. He was Eobard Thawne who had just killed Barry's mother, Nora Allen. Thawne was the villainous Reverse Flash who traveled back in time to kill the Flash, only to be stuck in a distant time.
Thawne appeared to have finished off Dr.Wells, stole his face and assumed his identity so he could develop the particle accelerator to enable him to return to the present.
The show then shifted to the present with the maniacal Axel Walker (Devon Graye) dropping explosive packages from the sky. The bombs triggered a city-wide panic. One kid about to touch one of the bombs was saved by the Flash.
Axel announced his intentions: to play a few "tricks" in Central City. It turned out to be a diversionary tactic so that he could break free from prison the original Trickster, James Jesse (Mark Hamill), who likewise terrorized the city with bombs 20 years ago. It was then revealed that James was the father of Axel who trained him on bomb-making.
James was then shown escaping from Iron Heights prison and taking Barry's dad Henry (John Wesley Shipp) hostage.
The father-and-son Tricksters then attempted to extort money from wealthy residents gathered at the city hall during a fund-raising event by lacing their drinks with poison and demanding money in return for the antidote.
When the Flash arrived, the Tricksters managed to lock a bomb on his wrist that would detonate if he stopped moving.
Dr. Wells coached Barry on how to remove the bomb by crashing into a wall and vibrating his molecules so that he could phase through objects to enable him to get rid of the bomb. The Flash succeeded and quickly provided an antidote to all the wealthy residents who had drank the poison. Among those he rescued was Iris (Candice Patton), the woman he loves, who was also at the party.
He then captured the two Tricksters and freed his father, thus revealing to him his true identity.
