Deadline reported that CBS used its upfront presentation to officially announce the follow-up of the recently concluded TV series, "The Good Wife." CBS Corporation Chairman Leslie Moonves confirmed that the network has ordered for "The Good Wife" spinoff project.

The foundation of the spinoff will be the seemingly open-ended finale of the original "The Good Wife" franchise. Several aspects of the series ender appeared to have the potential to continue in a new direction.

It was reported by USA Today that Tony Award-winning actress Baranski will lead the show which will focus on her Chicago law firm, but the story will be told through the perspective of her goddaughter at the same legal colleague whose character and name have yet to be disclosed.

"The Good Wife" creators Robert and Michelle King have been tapped to co-write the first episode of the new series but will not be its showrunners. The executive producers will include Ridley Scott, David Zucker, Liz Glotzer and Brooke Kennedy.

Apart from these, little is yet known of the upcoming show.

The acclaimed drama "The Good Wife" witnessed the story of Alicia Florrick (Julianna Margulies) who had to rebuild her career as a lawyer following the decline of her state's attorney husband Peter (Chris Noth) because of his involvement in political corruption. She was hired by the Stern, Lockhart & Gardner law firm where she worked with Diane and old law school friend Will Gardner (Josh Charles). The seven-season run of "The Good Wife" was an intricate narration with intricate characters weaved through it and in a rollercoaster-ride of intrigues, drama, strong emotions and rampant politicking.

CBS has yet to announce the official title of the spinoff.
