Jessica Chastain will join Chris Hemsworh and Charlize Theron in Universal's spinoff "The Huntsman."

Chastain just closed the deal on the film, which will return to the dark world of "Snow White and the Hunstman."

Details on Chastain's character remain vague just like the plot details of the new movie.

What is clear is that Hemsworth and Theron will reprise their roles as Huntsman Eric and Ravenna, respectively, to show how the fates of their characters intersected before they met Snow White.

Snow White was played by Kristen Stewart in the "Snow White and the Huntsman," a movie released in 2012.

Cedric Nicolas-Troyan will be directing the new film after former "Walking Dead" showrunner Frank Darabont left the project.

Before his departure last January, Troyan was able to write the screenplay with earlier drafts by Craig Mazin and Evan Spiliotopoulos.

Maradith Frenkel and Chloe Yellin will oversee the project for Universal while Palak Patek will executive produce with Joe Roth as producer.

Chastian signed the deal after Emily Blunt confirmed that she is joining the cast of "The Huntsman," which is set for release on April 22 next year.

Blunt has also finally closed her deal to star as the villain.

The original plan to create a sequel for "Snow White and the Huntsman" was shelved in the aftermath of a scandal that involved film director Rupert Sanders admitting that he cheated on his wife in 2012 by having an affair with Stewart.

In July 2014, it was announced that there would be no sequel but a prequel spin-off instead that would concentrate on "The Huntsman" without Stewart and Sanders.

Chastain starred in big-budget films like "Interstellar" and prestige movies like "A Most Violent Year" and "Miss Julie."

The Oscar-nominated actress looks to retain such balance for her next round of films which begins this year with the upcoming release of Guillermo del Toro's "Crimson Peak" in October. It will be followed by Ridley Scott's "The Martian," which will debut in November.
