'The Incredibles 2' Release Date, Plot Spoilers Update: Is Parr's youngest child Jack-Jack going to be sequel's villain?
"The Incredibles 2" is happening even if it seems Pixar is being stingy on details about the animated film. To date, not a single image or teaser trailer has been released, but writer-director Brad Bird has confirmed that it has been given the green light.
According to Bird, the sequel will be something fans of the original version will be familiar with, except that something entirely new will be introduced, likely to make the future of the franchise brighter.
"Hopefully it's the same characters and feel, but going in a new direction. I mean, that's the trick with a sequel. It's repeating yourself, without repeating yourself," Bird told Entertainment Weekly.
In effect, Bird was saying fans will see the same cast of characters in "The Incredibles 2," although new elements will be introduced to make the film feel fresh. Nevertheless, Bird was careful not to drop hints about the animated film's villains, plot, or if the sequel will continue from where the original left off or if there will be a time jump.
It will be recalled that the original movie ended with the Parr family – Bob, Helen, Violet, Dash, and even youngest child Jack-Jack – displaying their superhero powers in public. Hence, Screen Rant says the sequel might find the family dealing with their status, keeping in mind that they are coming out as superheroes in a world where their likes have been banned, as well as with the fact that their baby has powers, too.
In the original movie, fans and viewers had a glimpse of how powerful Jack-Jack could become if his powers were honed. There are rumors that if "The Incredibles 2" sees a time jump, Jack-Jack might now be a teenager who's confused about his powers and might join the dark side.
Bird told Collider in an exclusive interview last year that he was 75 percent done with the script for "The Incredibles 2." If that's the case, then the movie might see an earlier release than the previously announced release date of June 21, 2019.
