'The Jim Gaffigan Show' season 3 cancellation news 2016: Show to come to an end
"The Jim Gaffigan Show" has come to an end.
The TV Land show's season 2 finale, which aired Sunday, Aug. 21, was, in fact, the series finale, as Gaffigan himself has announced that the show has reached its conclusion.
Gaffigan, who created, executive produced, and starred in "The Jim Gaffigan Show," made the announcement on Monday. According to the comedian, the decision to end his and his wife Jeannie's "highly personal passion project" was not one they made lightly. The show, which premiered in July 2015, was based on the lives of Jim, Jeannie, and their children.
"After months of discussion, Jeannie and I have decided to make season two of 'The Jim Gaffigan Show' the final season," he wrote, adding that he and his wife had poured their hearts into the sitcom for more than five years.
Gaffigan called the show "empowering, exhilarating, and exhausting" and noted that all the season 2 episodes were written by him and Jeannie, with Jeannie serving as showrunner and him acting in practically every scene.
But while the Gaffigans learned a lot from working on the series, "the time commitment to make the quality of show we wanted was taking us away from our most important project, our five children," Gaffigan said. He concluded his message by expressing gratitude to the social media friends and critics who supported "The Jim Gaffigan Show." He also said that he and his wife are excited to move on to other creative endeavors.
"We are really proud of 'The Jim Gaffigan Show' and the amazing comedy that Jim, Jeannie, the cast, the creative team and JAX Media have made for us," TV Land said about the show's end in a statement. "After two great seasons, we have mutually agreed to not move forward with season three of the series."
"The Jim Gaffigan Show" was originally developed for NBC. Gaffigan later filmed two pilots for CBS before the show eventually received a series pickup at TV Land.
