'The Last of Us 2' release date, news, rumors: Naughty Dog eyes for 2021 release of sequel?
Earlier this year, it was rumored that Naughty Dogs is already starting the develop the much-awaited sequel to 2013's hit post-apocalyptic first-person shooter video game, "The Last of Us." Since the game was first released in the older PlayStation 3 console, the fans can expect a lot of improvements in graphics design with the sequel. However, it appears that the fans need to wait more years until the sequel's arrival.
As reported by Mobi Picker, Naughty Dog is not yet ready to release "The Last of Us 2" anytime soon. In fact, the sequel is not expected to be ready next year or even in 2018. The problem lies with the previous DLC releases for their other hit game title, "Uncharted 4." The past few months have been very busy for the game developer company, especially that their teams have worked on the DLC packs for "Uncharted 4" while brainstorming for new contents in "The Last of Us" sequel. Nevertheless, there has been a bit of progress made as far as creating "The Last of Us 2."
Particularly, game producer Neil Druckmann revealed that the teams created to brainstorm for ideas in "The Last of Us 2" had to stop for a while to focus on then unfinished "Uncharted 4" expansion packs. At that time, they were already in the middle of creating new characters for the sequel.
For now, it is expected that "The Last of Us 2" is targetted by Naughty Dog to be released in 2021. This is quite an unfortunate news to hear for those anxiously waiting for the sequel, although Naughty Dog may need to get all the time it requires to create a great quality video game. It is possible that by 2018, Naughty Dog will already have details to share with the public as far as the actual game development goes.
"The Last of Us 2" may have been overdue already since the first game title was released many years ago with the older PS3 format. Some fans thought that Naughty Dog may have already given up the idea of a sequel due to the lack of confirmed details, but the company does seem to have a solid plan to create a follow-up game. In fact, Druckerman was reported to spill possible new themes for the sequel, including a more religious take on the sequel's plotline.
