'The Last Of Us 2' spoilers: Ellie to seek revenge for Joel's death?
"The Last of Us 2" has finally been confirmed, and its lead character is Ellie, who may be pregnant and out seeking for blood.
The game is set five years after the first title. Neil Druckmann, who will, once again, serve as the director and writer of "The Last of Us 2," confirmed during the PlayStation Experience that Ellie, voiced by Ashley Johnson, will be coming back as the main character. He revealed that while the first title was about love, this one is completely the opposite.
"This story's the counter of that. It's about hate," he announced during the activity.
The teaser trailer for "The Last of Us 2" shows Ellie looking like she just came from a fight, with two corpses inside the same house she is in. Her state of mind can be summarized in one line she dropped in the trailer: "I'm gonna find and I'm gonna kill every last one of them."
Game fans are speculating that the reason for Ellie's anger and her quest for revenge is that she was pregnant and had a miscarriage. The pregnancy theory came from an Easter egg on "Uncharted 4," which features a pregnant woman, who looks like Ellie, wearing a gas mask.
Even though she is gay, she may have been captured in between the two games and experimented on by the scientists trying to capture her on "The Last of Us," including being artificially impregnated. Another possible option is that she carried Joel's child.
Speaking of Ellie's partner, another rumor going around is that Joel actually died. Although he appeared in the trailer, some are contesting that he is actually just a hallucination. His death would also explain Ellie's quest for revenge.
These theories, as well as the statement of Druckmann that the game will not have a happy ending, has made fans anxious about the fate of the characters.
On the other hand, people may be reading too much from the trailer. After all, Naughty Dog has a history of misleading its fans in its trailer, as seen in the teaser they released of the first "The Last of Us" game. They later admitted that the scenes portrayed there were made specifically to hook players in, and they are not actually part of the storyline of the game.
"The Last of Us 2" is currently in the early stages of development. As such, the game might be released in 2018. Given the partnership between Naughty Dog and Sony, it is a safe assumption that the game will make its way to PS4, and not to any other console.
